Latex tubes and heat from sitting in car

I have read that latex tubes do not like heat. EX: long downhill braking, carbon rims etc.

Should there be any concern storing wheelset w/ Vittoria latex tubes inside car in summer?

I live in Chicago area, highs can get into 90+ degrees in summer,,,not sure how hot interior of car gets

Thanks in advance

I know that some time spent in a car won't be an issue. But storing tires, both latex and other materials, inside a car where daily temps can reach 130+, can't be any good. If you're talking about a day or two, like for a trip, no issue, but I wouldn't use the car as a warehouse.

I have returned to popped tubes after storing wheels in my car after a race. Maybe deflate first?

A bit of math might help. Let's assume a 50° temperature difference from 80-130°. In the scheme of things that's about a 10% rise in absolute temperature, so a 10% rise in pressure. Not all that significant.

OTOH- I've had tires blow right behind my ears driving with the bike inside the car with the air conditioning on. So I suspect it's simply a delayed blow from a cut that slowly spreads open and lets the tube blow through eventually. I've seen the delayed blow effect with my own eyes when I've observed the bubble before it blew, so I know that happens.

If this is one day a month, no problem. If you're going to do that every day next summer, I'd call that long term storage in elevated temperatures.

While I'm not sure what the exact chemical processes are that age latex tubes, I'd bet they'd be accelerated by sitting in a car in the middle of the day. As Frank says, short term, no big deal. Now if you're storing them in 140F (for example) 90 days x 4 hours/day = 360 hours, prepare to replace them!

Good insight!

Maybe one or two days a Week in car.

I was thinking 9 hours per day,,,but it would not getting hot until noon, so 4 hours per day seems like good estimate to heat exposure.
