2000 TREK oclv 5500 carbon

I have recently changed the bottom bracket on my 2000 Trek OCLV 5500. I had big problems with the left hand side, but eventually managed to get it unstuck. During this procedure I realised that the inner threaded casing was moving. Has anyone else had this problem. There is a screw that holds the BB cable guide in place, that also goes through a hole in the threaded casing, but there is a fair amount of play even with the screw in. I am not sure whether the casing is threaded or just the frame where the screw goes in. Should the threaded casing move or should it be "glued in"? Has anyone else had this problem.
Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like the bonding is failing, if your the original owner, you should have a lifetime warranty (the Trek store or Phil Corley, both in MK are probably closest to you), if not, there are carbon repair places, would do a search on SingleTrack forums as there are regularly post asking about this, and are UK centric

Looks like there are a number of posts on various fora about this. If you are the original owner, you likely will have a claim.
If not, there may be some difficulty. There are posts about epoxying the shell back in place which would probably salvage
the frame if it is not subject to warranty. I would have no qualms about epoxying the shell back in situ but considerable
attention to thread protection would be needed unless you have access to BB taps.

thanks jimc101. I wasn't sure if the casing was supposed to move and it was the screw that held it in place.

No problem, hope you get the bike fixed soon.

I spent most of my life up to now in Bedfordshire, and despite it being almost the smallest county, I can still fine new places I haven't ridden everytime I go back.

I think I will try epoxying the bolt that goes through the BB cable guide. It actually goes into the threaded casing by about 2 mm. The only draw back is I wouldn't be able to take the cable guide off again, but I can live with that.
