Bike Problems? Get them fixed!
Hey my name is Jake. And I want to ask you about your bike. Is there something on your bike that is always breaking or having to get fixed? Put it in the comments and let us know! Because we are finding out a common flaw or problem(s) about bikes. So that we can create something to fix it permanently. Thank you for your input it is greatly appreciated and will help towards our research!

Flat Tires?
Actually I can do pretty well with kevlar belted tires in the summer. In the winter I pick up a little more debris.

Same here, tires. But I just installed kevlar belt tires, so we'll see how they do. And you know about the other items that wear out from use, e.g., brake shoes and chains. Other than that, I don't really have any recurring maintenance issues on my bikes.
I've had to true my wheels, but I can chalk that up to the skill of the wheel builder.
If you represent a store, you might as well say. There's nothing wrong with doing market research.

Perhaps you missed the fact that people post problems here in separate threads, so that people interested or knowledgeable about them don't have to wade through a single thread addressing multiple issues. Also, you are unlikely to determine manufacturing or design defects on a forum - there is just not enough of a sampling, nor does one have the ability to eliminate variables in order to identify a common cause. Finally, your store is highly unlikely to be able to match the assembled knowledge of the participants on this forum, so I don't see any advantage to depending on your analysis.

Definitely need to re-invent the wheel.
The truth is the vast majority of bike components are very good, and will function admirably with little to no maintenance. Don't like dealing with chains and derailluers, there's internal hubs and belt drives, etc.
My only real problem is the N+1 problem, and spousal approval for that.

I just don't have problems that keep recurring over and over. Sure I've had parts wear out. Made maintenance mistakes, hit debris, etc. I touch up my truing periodically, and try to learn from my mistakes.
If something breaks where I don't think it should, then I'll look for a different brand, model, style. But, often by the time I wear something out like a pump, the replacements that are available are different from the original.
I do try to carry a few tools with me for whatever comes up from a flat tire to a broken chain to an out of true wheel.

Thank you SO much, Jake. Here's my problem. The glue in my patch kit dries out after opening the tube. I normally find out at a most inconvenient time, what with a flat tire out on the road and all...
Can you and your research team help me with this?
Thanks again. I'll just stand by and wait for your reply...

Jake, you are asking that everyone who has ever posted a problem on this forum - including those folks who have passed on to their eternal reward - come back and re-post everything. That puts an unnecessary burden on us, both living and dead. Instead, why don't you go back through all the posts and make a tally of each discreet problem? Then you can draw a nice graph. We will all be mildly interested in the graph when it's published and we will thank you for your effort. Or maybe you need a less cumbersome project for your statistics course.

The motor powering my bike is constantly craving fuel. I feed it plenty every day but it still wants more. What to do? Thanks.

At least then you'll have a 10% chance that they will slow down the leak.
And, it seems the less fuel I feed the engine, the faster I go

Jake, lately there have been a lot of trolls on BF. Is there any way you can fix that?

Mine just run out of air at as I ascend hills. I can't figure out any pattern - it doesn't seem to matter which bike I'm on, mountain or road, brand or level of components, just breathe harder and harder until I have to slow down. Mechanics can't find anything wrong with the bikes either. Anybody else ever have a problem similar to this?
