Shimano RD-6700 Ultegra RD --- BEST shifter recommendation

I'm running a new Shimano RD-6700 Ultegra Rear Derailleur (Short Cage / 10-speed) on my Cannondale EVO SuperSix. I have a single chainring (that's all you need to bomb around Manhattan) and 23-12 cassette. I have flat-bars, and currently have the Shimano Tiagra shifter. It feels very heavy compared to the Deore shifter / Sora rear derailleur I have on a different bike. The Ultegra derailleur is brand new, but the shifting feels like crap!!! What is the BEST compatible shifter I can use (remember flat-bars) to help my shifting?

Why not use mountain bike stuff? Shifters made for flat bars and the cassette range won't be challenges at all by the der. Andy.

Andy... I thought about that, but I wanted a short-cage RD, and Ultegra seemed the best way to go. Is there even such a thing as XTR or XT short-cage RD???

As the OP is using a 6700 RD, MTB parts won't work (Dyna-Sys)

For a shifter, the best choice is a R770 shifter, this is a non-series Ultegra level part, although would be looking at cable routing/replacement initially before spending more money on an additional shifter.

Da bomb in this category would be Paul Component Thumbies with dura ace bar end shifters. Rock solid and very crisp shifting.
