Are Tektro RL720 levers V-brake compatible?

Hi All

I'm thinking of installing a set of Tektro RL720 inline levers on my drop-bar MTB. It's currently equipped with XTR V-brakes and I know Tektro does not recommend using these levers with V-brakes (mechanical advantage issues), but I'm wondering if there really will be a problem?

Alternatively, is there another inline brake lever that would work?

Thanks!

Thanks, cobba. I should have added that my (Midge) bars are 24mm with a 25.4 centre section.

I see that Paul makes a lever that will work. Kinda pricey though.

I'm sure that you could make them fit.

Thanks, nfmisso, but the Tektro TL740 levers are not inline cross levers, which is what I want.

From the description:

"Tektro RL740 Top Mount V Brake Lever - 24 mm OD Handlebar

Description

-Top mount lever, compatible with linear pull brakes (V brakes).
- Forged alloy bracket, reach adjustment and retun spring.
- Q.R. mechanism forged alloy silver anodized

- This lever can be used on it's own or as a through lever in conjuction with the primary brake lever. If used on it's own use a pear nipple brake cable."

The RL740, like other Tektro cross levers can be used as an in line lever, or by themselves. The only real difference between the RL740 and RL741 is the clamp diameter.

I wouldn't use them as My Only Brake lever , they are not for that, but to be in the middle of the housing run

the cable passing through it . the stiff soldered/ molded Zn end if flexed where its inflexible

is prone to Breaking at some time when you need it to be Braking instead..

yes Pauls Being Made in The US, Chico Cal, are more expensive .. you like working for Low wages ?

G'gl seems to only show the Tektro RL741 from The UK source , and for 31.8 mm clamp,
so you have to accept that and cope with it .. that can be done .

Tektro RL740 Top Mount Brake Lever - £29.99
My apologies, nfmisso, I was looking at the CL 740 levers (Duh!). Yeah, the RL740 looks like it would do the trick! I'll have to look into shipping rates and see if there's a significant difference in total cost between these and the Paul levers. If there isn't, I'd prefer the Pauls (And, no, fietsbob, I don't like working for low wages )

I have an un used Pauls set Im not going to use . [will Sell]

you move the pivot pin from one set of holes to another to re locate the pivot axis and thus the MA.

.. Yea lots of manufacturing moved off shore because they Like the lower costs over there ..

only things paying well in the US are computer software code writers [But they can be outsourced too ]

And Armaments Manufacturing (high paying jobs funded from the Treasury)

No worries I noticed that I fat fingered things and had a T instead of a R.

Hey, fietsbob, thanks for the offer, but I just bought a pair of brand new Pauls for $80 on ebay!

Thanks again to everyone who replied to this thread.
