I need help finding tires
ok i have a few bikes that take 27 x 1 1/4 i need help deciding where is the best place to get tires , at the lowest price , or what other wheel sizes with fit the frames , 80s road bikes .
will a 700c wheel fit the frames will a 28 inch wheel tire , uuuuughhhhh i cant even finish typing , why the hell are these damn tires so damn confusing , every tires has an ass load of numbers 28 x 700c x wtf some fit some dont , like a 28 tires wont fit a 27 1 1/14 wheel WTF ,
is there any place on the internet that makes solving a problem like this easy , its really driving me crazy , and i dont have much money to spend so i cant afford to get it wrong ordering off the internet , and i sure as hell cant afford bike shop prices , so im stuck , any help is welcome
ps , id like to get some bontrager tires , they look really nice and tuff , or anything that is street tuff and can take glass and nails and stuff , the kenda tires look too whimpy to last or provide good protection but they will fit , so also , what would be the best size to convert to , if possible , i would assume 700c x NUMBERS or a wheel size that would fit and give me more options
pps, i just looked on this site https://www.nashbar.com/bikes/Categor...y=&searchTerm=
and saw the tires they list for 27 x 1 1/4 are also 700x32 so is the modern size i should look for ?
ppps , will these fit https://www.nashbar.com/bikes/Product...85_-1___204729

You need specifically tires that are labeled as "27 x 1 1/4. Loose Screws has some high-end options. I'd go to Jenson USA or Universal Cycles for other options at lower cost.

This one has the flat protection you are after:
https://www.jensonusa.com/Schwalbe-Marathon-Greenguard-Tire
Search on "27 1 1/4" to find other options. Some are as low as in the teens.

If your bike has 27x1 1/4 tires on 27" rims then all you can run is 27" tires. 700c tires will not work on 27" rims, but most older road bikes can be converted to 700c wheels. When switching to 700c rims/tires, the brake pads will need adjusted to fit the different rim. Most older brake calipers will have enough adjustment to do this, but if not, you can upgrade the brakes.
Check out Amazon for good prices on tires. The selection for 27" is a lot smaller than 700c, but still some decent options out there.

Went to the basement for my vintage '70s 27" rims, placed next to a 700c clincher rim the 27" rim is at least 3/8" LARGER in diameter, so no way 700c tires are going to fit.

The difference is actually 4mm between 27" and 700c with the 27" rim being 4mm larger in diameter.

27 x 1 1/4. That is the size you need. As for where to buy, you already have some recommendations. Nashbar, Amazon, Jenson, REI. Or, your local bike shop. Not clear from your original post how much you want to spend. Panaracer Pasela TG comes in 27 x 1 1/4. They cost about $30 a tire, and they are pretty good. Schwalbe is also very good, but they cost a bit more. Vittoria Zaffiro is available in 27 x 1 1/4 from REI for $15. That is a pretty decent price. Kenda makes a $15 tire in your size as well, available on Amazon.
Bontragers are the Trek house brand. I doubt you will find them in your size or much on the internet. But you can find them at any Trek dealer.

Bontrager Hardcase have puncture protection, dunno if they come in 27" tho. I usually just get Mr. Tuffy tire liners to help prevent punctures, instead of tires with built in protection.
pps, i just looked on this site Mountain Bike Tires | Road Bike Tires | Bike Nashbar

ppps , will these fit Continental Ultra Sport Road Tire
There are only a handful of 27" options out there these days.

I like the Continental Ultras, and for the price I've been well pleased with them. Gatorskins are also available in 27" but I have yet to ride them to give an opinion. I believe both are available in 1-1/4 and 1-1/8...may be just the Ultras though.

A rarely exploited advantage of solid AKA airless AKA airfree tires is that a 28"/700C/622 tire can be fitted to a 27"/630 mm rim.
As can tubulars. Takes some tinkering though.

ETRTO 630 tires (27") are easy to find a Wal-mart, Amazon, Nashbar, Niagara, local bike shop and MANY other places.
As noted above, it is conceptually simple to convert to ETRTO 622 (700c) tires; but will be pricy requiring new rims and spokes or new wheel assemblies.
I'd suggest these: Kenda Street K35 27 x 1-1/4 Blk K Sheild Tire if you are worried about punctures or these if not: Kenda Street K35 Road Tire 27 x 1-1/4 Black/Tan Steel
If you are worried about punctures, get thorn resistant tubes. If you have Schrader valves: Sunlite Thorn Resistant Bicycle Tube 27 x 1-1/4 (700 x 30-35) SCHRADER Valve
and if Presta valves: Sunlite Thorn Resistant Bicycle Tube 700 x 25-28 (27 x 1-1/8-1-1/4) 32mm PRESTA

I actually tried to fit a 700 onto a 27" rim. I did get it on, but of course it wouldnt seat on the bead.
No matter what your math says, it really just cant work.
But my Peugeot is very happy that the old gumwall tires are gone.

Bike Tires Direct has great sales all the time. Customer service is quite helpful too, if you want to call them.

+1 on the Panaracers. They're great tires in any size, and it they have several 27 inch tires.
But, there are a lot of choices for 27" tires, as others have pointed out. What you want will be clearly labeled 27 x 1/4. No other numbers to worry about. Just buy exactly that.

Panaracer or Kenda (and some other crap brand) are your choices. You got blackwall, gumwall, and whitewall available and even a Kenda 27X 1 3/8 knobby, so your choice. Get some 27" tires you like or do a wheel upgrade.

Tire width, on the other hand, you can usually be a little flexible on. If your original tires are 27" x 1 1/4", you can almost certainly drop down to 27" x 1 1/8", which might give you a few more tire options.
Tire Sizing Systems
...which I guess is a long way to say you should be looking at particular tire models, not brands. In this case, if you're looking for a 27" flat-resistant tire, I'd suggest the Panaracer Pasela PT. Nice riding tire, available in 27" sizes, reasonably lightweight, with a puncture-resistant belt. They go for about $30 each online. If you need to look for something less expensive, the Kenda K35 "K-Shield" tires that nlerner mentioned may be the way to go.

I replaced the dried out old 27 x 1 1/8 tires on my wife's Puch. The old tires were Specialized, and I replaced them with Kenda K36. The 27" wheels still have some life in them! I might have gone with Vittoria Zaffiro if I had seen them. Although 27" and 700C don't interchange, the widths equate such that:
27 x 1 1/4 = 700Cx 32
27 x 1 1/8 = 700Cx 28
27 x 1 = 700Cx 25
It is rare to find 1 1/8 and rarer still to find 1" tires, but 1 1/4 are all over. I have not seen anything else for 27".
