Rim reccomendation for wheel build for 29er commuter

I commute daily on a 29er (Surley Karate Monkey) with linear-pull mountain bike brakes. My rear wheel recently failed - a couple of eyelets pulled out and the sidewall cracked. It wasn't a great rim. I do, however, have excellent 32h hubs that I want to keep and build-up into new commuter wheels. I am just not sure what kind of rim to use. I generally use 28x700 clinchers (Specialized Armadillos) and the bike is very heavy (panniers, overweight rider, etc.) and I commute in an urban environment with terrible roads. Even though I have very good hubs, I don't need super-lightweight and stiff racing rims. I don't care if they are heavy, I just want them to be able take significant abuse. In the past I have used a cheap 29er rim, but that failed. I am not sure if a cyclocross rim would be better given the size of tire I run or if another 29er rim would be better because it would be more resilient. I am trying to spend less than $75 per rim. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thank you! (first time poster).

Velocity Dyad.
Velocity Dyad Rim, 700c 32h Silver

available in other colors for more $$

I have Dyad's on my Trek 720 commuter, the back of our Tandem, and their 559 cousins: Aeroheat, on my other commuter.

H Plus Son Archetype. H Plus Son Rims

If you'll tell us the ERD of the old rim we can recommend a direct replacement. Otherwise I'd order 34 Sapim Race spokes for it.

I will second the above recommendations for either the Dyad or CR 18, both are extremely durable.
