Motorcycle Chain and Sprockets/Rings (1/4" wide) on Bicycle

Has anyone come across such a setup that would easily fit on a 26" wheel mountain bike? Anyone use such a setup? If yes, what feedback could you give?

Why? Just curious. Motorcycle chains would add a ton of rotating weight

OP is a "because I can" kind of guy from all indications. I'd use 1/8" sprockets with a 3/16" BMX chain and call it a day.

Never tried it. I have run 1/8" bicycle chain on 3/16" cogs, so maybe a 420 chain would work on standard 1/8" bicycle cog and chainring???

Almost seems like rollers might be too big, but dunno.

1/4" cassette cogs here. You'll also need some spacers Redline Steel Cassette Cog 1/8" x 14T Single Chrome

If your 26" wheel has a freewheel hub you can get SS freewheels but it sometimes takes a bit of work to get the chainline dialed in. I usually respace the rear axle and redish the rear wheel so that the cog is lined up with the middle ring position of the crankset, then put a chainring in the middle position.

This page says 420 moto chain has the same roller diameter as bicycle chain, so you should be in business. Looks like they switched their SS and multispeed chain specs so dunno how accurate the other info is.

Notes on Sprockets and Chains

I was thinking the chain might be more durable. Since then I got a new chain I like (KMC Z33) and have considered that a 1/4" setup might be too heavy.

Why not sandwich a 1/8" cog between two 3/32" cogs and drive it with a #40 (5/16") chain?
