My understanding is that these v-brakes (where the brake cable runs through the noodle and the boot) need long pull brake levers. But when you go to buy brake levers they do not seem to mark them as long pull levers. What am I missing here. Do they identify them another way?

Shimano does mark many of it's MtB levers as being "V" brake versions. Most manufacturer's specs also state which cable pull (or brake type) they are. Most all the wholesale suppliers also state this in the part description (thankfully the era of simple single line print outs is long gone) in their catalog.

Where are you shopping that lacks this very needed description? If it's your LBS and they won't do their part of making sure you get what you need then find another shop.

It's not hard to measure the cable pull of levers if they are in your hands. Andy.

I was looking on Amazon.ca at the lower priced selections. I had trouble adjusting theV- brakes on a old Trek hard tail and the solution, after several tries was to change the brake lever to a long pull lever I pulled off another bike and it work perfectly. So now I need to order a new set.

Nobody makes canti levers for a MTB these days.

Go with these.

Note that these pages has been filtered to include only caliper/cantis and their levers. FAR from nobody. When I hear absolute claims I tend to run. Andy

Correct. Cantilever levers are available but they are rarer than hen's teeth. If you buy a set of modern levers and accidentally wind up with canti-compatible levers, your next purchase should be a lottery ticket.

For dropbar road bike use, Tektro (also sold under the Cane Creek brand name) offers V-brake compatible levers as the model number RL520. I don't know of any "brifters" that are V-brake compatible except Gevenalle's "Retroshift" are available using the Tektro levers.

Shimano makes them as well. I have them on two of my bikes.
