Can Powertap SL 2.4+ hub work with 7 speed?

I currently have a powertap SL 2.4 built into a 650c wheel on my race bike. The spec sheet says the hub is compatible with 8,9, and 10speed only. I am upgrading to a new power meter soon and want to build my powertap 2.4 into the wheels of my old 7 speed 1998 Trek 420 aluminum bike. Is it possible to just get a spacer for the cassette and call it a day? I believe the shimano rsx 7 speed hub is luckily 130mm (although majority of 7 speeds are 126mm). Check out post number 11:

Measure the dropout width on your Trek or the wheel that is on it now. If it's 130 then yes, all you need is a spacer behind the cassette.
