2005 Cosmic Carbones... "carbon?"

Alright I just purchaced a set of 2005 cosmic carbone sl ssc wheelset (the 1750 gram ones)

Can someone translate this for me.

Aluminum rim with bidirectional carbon flanges. Does this mean the fairing is carbon now?

The answer does not bother me to liking or not like the wheels but I can not find the answer.

It is an alluminum rim with a carbon fairing/aero section bonded to it.
