How do I get the thru-axle quick release to point the right way?

Thread title makes me sound pretty stupid but the skewers Specialized now are using are just bolts. When I look at other Diverge's with this system they all have the quick release handle pointing forward/up like normal practice. However, mine points back. Am I right in thinking that either the bolt or frame thread insert wasn't made correctly that's causing this. And that if it's the latter I'm sol? Any potential solutions?

This is mine:

What all the other bikes using this standard look like:

I don't know the specifics of your frame, however I doubt that they tapped the frame itself.

That means that there's an inert of some kind, and you can orient the lever by reorienting the insert. Either it can turn with a bit of force, or might need to be pressed out, turned and pressed back.

Also, take a good look at the skewer itself. The lever head isn't one piece with the shaft. That means it might be that you can change the orientation of the lever vs. the shaft.

So, it's up to you to do a bit of detective work. Looking at the lever in the photo, I can't see enough details, but that's what I'd check first.

isn't the red thing in the middle a button that lets you rotate the handle relative to the skewer itself?

Never mind, just watched the video, pull the handle straight out from the bike and rotate it.

The one on my suspension fork was quite a mystery, had to go on youtube. Just like a child-proof cap

I've an older model in which the button actually pushes. Or maybe the button just protrudes more. It's a good place to rest your thumb while lifting the lever.

Love the design btw. I've a couple mountain bikes with the RWS thru-bolt system. It's good stuff. Reduces flex over a standard QR.
