Can I clamp over this hole? (Derailleur Adapter)

Sorry, my other thread was getting a bit cluttered and now I know what I'm working with...

Here's the holes on my Trek frame for a front derailleur hanger. I'm using a clamp on unit now. The hole is slightly raised above the rest of the seat tube, but I can get the clamp around it just fine. Is it going to be a problem if I just tighten the clamp over this?

I had a clamp on adapter already that I tried to file in that area, but went a little overboard. It created a really weak 'hinge' right there that I was able to just fold right over. I didn't feel comfortable putting it on the bike.

Now I'm wondering about just clamping without any filing.

Thanks.

Pics added momentarily...

Why not just buy a braze on front derailleur? They're cheap.

I have a braze on front derailleur. The problem is that the bolt on adapters are very difficult to find and I'd rather use a clamp.

I would really try to find the bolt-on der hanger. It can't be that weird a part. I'm pretty sure one of these will fit. I don't like the idea of the clamp not having a smooth solid surface to wrap around or crushing a dent into the seat tube.

+1, ask anyone who has dented an aluminum frame, even dented it using the right size clamp.

Here's a drill-your-own-holes aluminum bracket. NOVA FRONT DERAILER BOSS FOR WELDING :: SMALL PARTS :: BRAZON/SMALL PARTS :: Nova Cycles Supply Inc. A little tricky to get it right but another option. Mount the der. in the bracket, position it over the holes in the correct orientation, mark the holes and hope for the best. These are cheap enough to get 2 in case it doesn't go right the first time.

Okay so yeah, maybe you guys are right. I tried a Problem Solvers mount that's slotted and can only get the derailleur about 8mm above the chainring. Will be trying to find a hanger now...
