Shifter Missing
Shimano LX Front ShIfter
The best way to describe my front derailleur problem is my ****er is missing. I have a problem going from the medium cog to the largest one. When I press the thumb shifter to go from med to big there is no resistance in the lever...nothing happens. If I put pressure on the lever at an upward angle (not the easiest thing to do) it shifts just fine. It is as though something catches that should be. It seems like the problem lies within the internal mechanics of the shifter.
Has anybody experienced this?
Does anybody know a part, rebuild or adjustment to resolve this problem?
I'm kind of new to MTB.
Any help is appreciated.

the grease inside the shifter goes sticky after a while. This causes the second stage ratchet pawl to stick open. You have to use a spray lube with solvent in the shifter to break down the old grease and relube it. You may also have to remove the bottom cover of the shifter and push the pawl to free it up, then the solvent will do the rest.
