(not exactly bike related) re painting surly powder coated rack
Hey! I'm the type of person that is ocd about his bike being perfectly matching in terms of color. The silver color of my surly nice rack just won't do. My question, is it intelligent to attempt to repaint this rack? How does one go about preparing powder coated steel to be repainted? Am I just going to end up ruining this rack by making it prematurely rust, or just waste my time if the paint doesn't take to the powder coated surface? Any comments welcome, Thanks!

I rarely bother with repaints, as whatever you can apply at home will chip and scratch a lot easier than the factory paint job.
And powder coats in particular are very resistant to most stuff.
If I felt that I feel that I absolutely had to, I'd just scuff it all with a scouring pad or fine grade sand paper, clean and paint.
If you're worried about something chemical, test the paint out on a surface that would otherwise go against the frame, like the parts of the legs that meets the dropouts.
Thin tubing isn't the easiest thing to paint. You might trade an improved color matching against an overall poorer paint job, with runs and specks and whatnot.
