Lucas red n tacky

I started using Lucas red and tacky grease a few months ago on all the wheel bearings and loose ball bottom brackets on my bikes. Yesterday I grabbed my grease gun to get a little grease and I noticed there was some red liquid dripping out of the bottom of my grease gun onto the floor. This stuff is supposed to be good for wheel bearings and it's supposed to be pretty good stuff. With a big ride coming up in a week I'm concerned that maybe this isn't the best Grease? What is the liquid that appears to be separating from the grease and dripping out of my gun? Should I tear my bikes down and get that stuff out of there and put a thicker type of grease in? In the past I always used standard Automotive wheel bearing grease but this Lucas red and tacky seemed like a big improvement with tackiness and waterproofness. Should I be concerned?

The liquid is oil that has separated from the grease. It shouldn't be any problem.

The grease in the bearings gets "stirred" quite a bit - so don't worry about it.

Yeah I decided to come out this morning and take one Hub apart that probably has three or four hundred miles on it. The grease was still there and it was still wet and it was still good and sticky so I'm going to ride it and just make sure I do regular maintenance once a year. With the type of riding I do I think I can get by with yearly maintenance.

Grease isn't just thick oily goo. It consists of a non-crystalline lattice structure that suspends an oil within it. When that structure is stressed it releases some of the oil and reabsorbs that oil as it recovers to retain it for further use. It acts as a moment by moment oiler. When grease sits it can separate, and that's what you've got.

I agree. The oils are coming out of the grease, but it will be fine.
