Rim bulging around spokes

I met a guy who was selling his spare set of road rims for his pristine 1970 Paramount track bike. Pre "Record" marked high flange Campagnolo hubs, Wheelsmith stainless spokes butted in front, straight in back, red label Super Champion Gentleman 81 700C rims. The wheels and the tires on them look they've been on maybe a couple of rides. They've likely been sitting for decades.

I am surprised the rims have a little bulging at each spoke. I researched and since they have barely been ridden, maybe the spokes are overtensioned. I trued the wheels, which took about 1/8 turn on 3 spokes per wheel, and the tension appears normal. Ever seen this on new or barely ridden wheels and should I worry about it?

Old school box section rims often showed that, especially noticeable on anodized rims, as the anodizing wore off.

My rims are polished which also highlights contours.

A wheel I built with a Mavic Open Pro rim had the spoke holes angled to allow the spokes to align naturally toward the hub. Were older rims just drilled straight and the eyelets were sloppy to allow the spokes to angle both ways?

I've seen old rims Made that way, 40 years ago, but they were not for skinny tires.
