Question about replacement chainrings

I have question about chainrings.
I want to replace my current chainrings (46t/36t) with newchainrings (53t/39t).
When looking at chainrings for sale on Ebay, some are listedas “B-type”. To what does that refer andwhat is the difference between this type and any other type?
Thanks in advance for any info…

Generally, 53/39 will be on 130BCD cranks, "standard" while 46/36 and others will be on 110BCD, "compact." There are some 53/39 for 110BCD, but not many. Your easiest route, short of replacing the entire crankset, is to go for the 52/36 "mid-compact" chainrings. Lots of options in 110BCD. Or alternately, just buy a whole 53/39 130BCD crankset on eBay for cheap-- every is selling them, because so few people run those big gears anymore.

To answer your question, Shimano chainrings are "ramped and pinned" to facilitate shifting.

Scroll down for Sheldon Brown's description; saves lots of typing:

The B designation is so you can match them up as they were designed to be, but it doesn't hurt anything if you mix them up...
