Zefal Pump Maintenance?
Early this week I inquired about maintenance of my Topeak pumps and was told by Topeak to use pure silicone spray. So all 3 of those have been dealt with.
Now I want to do my Zefal Frame Pump. Anyone familiar with how to proceed?
Thanks!

Being an old guy with access to parts cleaners when I serviced a pump I would solvent tank clean it and let it drain/dry completely. Then lube with common bearing grease (Phil/Park), making sure all the threaded connections are tight. Periodic addition of lube/grease thereafter is good for a long time. Andy

Thanks Andy. At the risk of offending the other poster, silicone spray did not sound right for this pump.

Hello
It would be nice if someone enlightened us the potential benefits of silicone grease or spray in this application.
My pump maintenance is usually only done when they fail to develop pressure. So I am cleaning, greasing (lightly) AND replacing o-rings. Like Andy, I use what grease I have on hand. But I have some silicone on hand also... I now wonder would this be better for some reason.

Silicone grease (and spray) are inert to all rubber and elastomer parts in the pumps like the o-rings and plunger cups. Petroleum based grease may attack them depending on what they made of so Silicone is safe for all, all the time.
