Installing PF30 BB on C'Dale SuperSix EVO

Hey There,

I replaced the stock PF30 BB in my SuperSix EVO Hi-Mod (Hollowgram crankset) with a SRAM PF30 BB. The actual BB removal and replacement went smoothly and I have the spindle back in but its not at all clear what spacers/washers go on the spindle with the crankset. The SRAM package came with 2 spacers but they seem to be only if you're using a SRAM crankset as they don't fit on one side. The spacers from the previous PF30 BB don't fit either.

I finally swallowed my pride and took it back the bike shop where i got it, and they couldn't figure it out either. Like me, they were flummoxed by the fact that the new BB's spacers don't fit the old spindle and the old spindle's washers don't fit the new BB. They are going to try and get an answer from Cannondale next week but I'm not holding out hope.

Has anyone had this issue and figured it out? I can't believe it's so complicated, the PF30 itself is a really nice design, but this final step is a mess. I'd even be willing to get a different PF30 BB (like Chris King) if there was a simpler solution to getting a Hologram crankset on it.

thanks in advance for any advice.

I'm probably over simplifying but doesn't look that complicated? The crank instructions I see show no shims on the non-drive side and a single shim and wave washer on the drive side.
I'd assemble with the wave washer and then see how big a shim you would need so that the wave washer is slightly compressed. Disassemble, shim and then see how it works.

Thanks for the reply. YES! I agree it shouldn't be that complicated!! The problem is that the SRAM PF30 BB (which I now have) instructions are for the SRAM crank (which I don't have, its a Cannondale) and the Cannondale instructions assume both C'dale PF30 BB and crankset. So neither show how to do what I want to do, and I definitely agree it shouldn't be that tough but these PF30 BBs seem to not be fully standardized.

Neither I nor the huge high-end C'dale dealer bike shop I went to could do anything but guess, and none of the guesses looked right. This is a really nice bike and I ride a lot, so I want to be sure that after going to all this trouble I get it right and don't have to pull everything off again. Maybe Cannondale will have some advice tomorrow. If I get a definitive answer I'll post it in case anyone else has the same issue in the future. I'm still thinking the solution is probably simple, I just don't know it yet.

The type of bottom bracket wasn't a factor in buying the bike, it would never occur to me to not buy the bike I want because of the BB type. The bike itself is awesome and I know this will get sorted, just more of a hassle than I expected.

The PF30 in theory seems like a great idea, in that unlike the BB30 the two ends join and sort of self-align. But for some reason when I follow the Cannondale directions (URL ends with: d2sf1uqtd3qzv5.cloudfront.net/media/HOLLOWGRAM_compatibility_file.pdf) and add a thin plastic shim and wave washer and compress to the stated torque, the crank doesn't seem to spin freely. I'm hoping this resolves itself after I put some miles on it, but if not I'll try the Chris King PF30 and hope that that one is more compatible with this shell. I'm not sure what other options I have - the Cannondale PF30 BB it came with doesn't seem to be too readily available.
