Front derailleur grip shift stuck

I cannot shift the front derailleur using the grip shift on my cheapo Dunlop Sport (sport?). I have removed the outer grip but not sure how to take the shifter apart. I am still in the dark ages when down tube shifters were the best thing since sliced bread was invented. I also need to replace the rear derailleur and chain. Cannot afford much so can anyone recommend any?

Thanks

Brian

+1, With cheap grip shifters that may be your only option. toss them fit a new one. (other than a friction thumb shifter..)

I once tried taking apart a cheap plastic grip shifter; fell apart into a bunch of small, unrepairable plastic bits. Just buy a new one....

Thanks for your replies. A new one it is then, I might as well get both. Does anyone have any info on a Ventura Rear Derailleur? Are they any good?

Thanks

Brian

There are a few different versions of brand named Grip Shifters and other knock offs too. Some of the knock offs are not designed to even allow cable replacement. All the Grip Shift ones can be pulled apart, but how is version dependent. Grip Shift ones have a common failure of the internal spring cavity. We regard them as disposable. Just make sure you get the right compatibility WRT the rear der brand. Andy

Found some grip shifters on ebay for around £8 a pair (about $10.5). Comes with inner and outer cables. Must be worth a try, cannot be worse that what I already have (can they?)

Cheers

Brian

Just ordered a pair of Microshift branded grip shifters from Amazon at £9.46. They seem to have good reviews.
