Make 105's clickier?

noob alert.

So I just got my 2nd geared bike, set up with 105 11 speed.

The shifting levers feel kinda loose and sloppy, compared to my other bike which has 10 speed ultegra.

Is there anything you can do to make the shifting a little more crisp? or is that feeling just a benifit of buying nicer drive systems with better hardware?

buy ultegra shifters. there are reasons the ultegra units cost more, and work better.... and did you use the correct shifter cable housings? brake cable housings with spiral core will not work well... same goes for shift cable housings with a spiral core.

I've read so many comments about how close 5800 is to 6800. I don't share that opinion. 6800 shifting is faster, with shorter throws and with more distinct clicks. I think it looks better as well, not to mention being a bit lighter I believe.

Make sure there is no problem with shift cables or der. adjustment first, but if you still can't adjust to your liking and if you have the budget, spring for 6800 levers. You could even sell the 5800 shifters if they're in good shape or keep them as back up maybe for another build.

Bikes: Too many. Giant Trance X 29, Surly Midnight Special get the most time.

Shimano 11 speed is intended to require less physical force to shift. While the higher end groups feel a bit better, none of them feel like 10 speed shifters. It's a matter of taste as to whether this is a general improvement.

5800 can shift extremely consistently and fast, but tactilely it will always have a light action and a relatively muted feel at the shifter.
