Disk brakes squealing and losing breaking power

I have a Salsa Fargo 2017 and lately the brakes have been squealing a lot and i am also noticing it loosing breaking power.

What is usually causing disk brake to behave like this and how do i fix it?

How many miles have you put on the brake pads? Could they be worn out? Have you got any contamination on the rotors? See any discoloration there?

How did you first ride the bike, new? bed the pads in with a few 12~20 smooth non aggressive stops?

Are those brakes hydraulic or cable actuated?

Check and see if the pads are worn out if not clean them and the rotor with Isopropyl alcohol and see if you get more braking power.

As already asked, did you bed in the brakes and could they have been contaminated. It doesn't take much oil contamination to completely loose stopping power for example.

I never did anything with the brakes when i got the bike, i just started riding.

I tried to get the pads out and clean them from oil but only gave me some breaking power back but its not gone again.

You have to clean the rotors with alcohol as well, follow by riding and apply brakes, then repeat. It will take several times. Once you have them working again, bed them in.

ok i just cleaned the rotors with water and soap once.

I will try as you suggest before handing the bike over to the mechanic.
