Compatibility of SRAM GX 2x10 with Rival 10spd shifter

Just wanted to check in and get the opinion of some bike mechanic Jedis on this upgrade to see if it is an 'A fit' compatibility setup.

On my gravel bike I want to replace my rear 10spd Rival derailleur and 10spd 12-30 cassette with a 2x10 GX type 2.1 long cage and PG1070 10spd 12-36 cassette.

Will the new GX rear drivetrain work OK with my Rival 10spd road shift lever?

I think the combination should work but have never tried that particular pairing. What I have done in the past is mated SRAM 10 sp TT shifters with a 10 speed X0 derailleur and 12-34 and 12-27 cassettes. The 10 speed shifters also worked well with a Rival 10 speed derailleur and 12-27 cassette.

It's different than what you are doing, but it is my understanding that SRAM 10 speed accu-shift road and mtn derailleurs and shifters can be switched around.

Sorry it is not a definitive answer.

Just curious; when you asked the people at SRAM, what did they say?

According to the SRAM site, they don't answer technical questions from end consumers

"Consumers should contact their local dealer for service questions."

Interesting. So when you asked the people at your local dealer, what did they say?

He said my GX/Rival setup would probably work but wasn't sure and said it was worth trying bikeforums.net for opinions even though I would probably get snarky answers from time-wasters, tossed in with some actual helpful information. I still have hope that I may eventually get some helpful information.

SRAM GX rear derailleur uses 1:1 pull ratio just like Rival, Apex, Force, and XX, and I'm pretty sure everything else SRAM currently makes.

Just a nitpick, since I almost made this mistake myself: The SRAM 10 speed road and 2x10 mountain RDs are NOT 1:1. They are "Exact Actuation" which is actually 1:1.3. SRAM also makes RDs that they label "1:1". These are NOT the same thing as Exact Actuation and not compatible with 10/11 speed road groups.

But any RD labeled "Exact Actuation" should work with 10 speed road shifters. That includes the 2x10 GX RDs.

Thanks for the answers, it looks like GX 10spd rr derail and Rival 10spd shifters should be OK. I have all the parts but haven't installed them yet.
