Need a good book
So I had my bike tuned up this spring and I am running into shifting problems again. It seems that I should be learning how to do some of this stuff myself or throw out a lot of money on tune ups. Can anyone recommend a good book that can help me in this area? As a side question: I had a race this past weekend and noticed a couple of times when I got out of the saddle to accelerate that my chain shifted on the back cassete unexpectedly. What causes that?

Ok I'm going to get the book from Performance. While I'm at it I would like to go ahead and get some of the the tools I need. I guess I need a chain cleaner, degreasers and lube etc... Let me know what the essentials are and any brands you guys recommend. Thanks

I found some spot-on instructions at the Shimano website for my components. Check with your manufacturer's sites for instructions. Also recommend Zinn's book.

Another vote for the Zinn books. As for some starter tools to buy : hex wrenches (metric), spoke wrench, screwdrivers, chain tool, chain cleaner, many many rags. But of course you can never have enough tools
