Wheel Skewer Question

My road bike race wheels have recently developed a bend in the skewer.

When I hold the wheel and spin the quick release - the bolt on the other side detectably moves up and down very slightly. The wheels are Mavic Cosmic Equipe's with about 1,000 miles.

Does this have any function on performance?
Should they be replaced immediately so as not to damage the wheel in some other way?

Thanks

Well, its better to replace the skewer, although it effects your wheel not much.

Try to find a more resistable pair, not these high titanium gadgets or so, just steel with some decent flips

The skewer simply clamps the dropouts to the hub.The hub spins on bearings. The skewer cannot 'effect performance',unless of course it weighs a ton. This assumes the axel is located in the dropouts correctly and the slight bend causes no shift in position when clamped.
