Kool Stop installation
ok so put the Kool Stop pads on my bike and i killed my self three times cuz i didnt realize they grip beter than a thot but im ok.. anyways.. i am a techy so im a lil ashamed to ask but did i put them on the right way.. the instructions were ****.. basically the pointier end that sticks out a bit is in the back side not in the front.. so the longer half is in the back part of brake and the short part is in the front.. is this right or wrong.. i did for both wheels.. thnx.. they are the thinline all weather pads

aight so the small end of the pad is at front and the little part is in the back therefore puttuing the patenteed pointy thing at the back thats right lemme get one more verification jsut so i wont kill myself or anything

That "little pointing thing" is the front of the pad, and touches the rim in front of the rest of the pad. It cleans grit and water off the rim before it gets squeezed, perhaps scoring the rim.
Now, since we are at the top of the rim, the tire moves backword, so the "tip" must face rearword, from where the rim is moving.
Short answer, You got it right. But now there will be arguments.

I concur. The long side points toward the rear. I consider KoolStops mandatory on older, lower-leverage brakes, such as Campy Records.

Does Kool Stop make a Dura-Ace / Ultegra replacement pad? I'm really not pleased with my DA pads, and would love to replace them with something that may have a chance stopping me.

i believe the Kool Stop Eagle pads are made for cantilever brakes which means the pads may fit. dont get thinlines tho those are V try the eagles for cantilever may be compatible with side pull or ubrake

i got these ultegra break pads installed on my 5200 i told the shop machanic it felt too soft. latley when going fast it takes forever to stop comming down a hill i saw someone needing assistance and wasnt able to stop in time to help had to turn arround and pedal up hill toget to them. Seems there is some issue with these pads I cleaned the break surface of the rims (rolf vectors) helped a little but i definatly dont like them after reading this thread I am ready to try some kool stops anything has got to be better than what i got

Catfish, I think ultegra and dura-ace pads are the same model / pad. I too am using them with rolf vector pro's. I'll let you know how the kool stops work once i find a source to order from.

Hey Joe:
any luck with the breaks yet? iw as on along hot ride today comming down a big hill sharp left corner to the leftat the the bottom , I could barley slow down enough to make that corner I tell ya something is seriously worong with this set up/ I am thinking cable housings and stops maybe deteriated and stretching under heavy breaking Im out of ideas and still cant stop. the pads are new cleaned the breaking surface of the rims

i'm not too familiar w/ the roadie stuff, but have you guys tried running ceramic coated rims and pads for your bikes? This combo is amazing for braking. I'm running Mavic CrossMax wheels (same weight as Heliums i believe) w/ Koolstop ceramic pads on XTR vbrakes.

Finially I am able to stop now I tried everything from adjusting cables brake pads cleaning the break surfaces and pads, making sure wheels were true
what finially worked was i got a set of the red kool stop pads hope you have had luck with yours also

Nice, I ended up with a 2nd pair of Dura-Ace pads, and some Ritchy Logic pads. Im currently using the the dura-ace pads, 500 miles and going strong. Kool-Stop makes the richy pads, im expecting good things from them.
