chain falling off

I just recently made a nice mod to an old panasonic bike.
Put a megarange 7 freewheel on it. Replaced the r. derailler with a Shimano megarange.
Replaced the chain. replaced the crank with Sugino.
replaced the chainrings with a single 46T. mounted to the inside of the crank spider.
Threw away the fr. derailler.

So, I've now got a 7-speed. all gears in back/one shifter. Nice, except...
My chain is falling off the chain ring way too often.
The chainline runs to about the midline of the freewheel.
Chain falls off mostly to the outside.

What to do? move the chainring further out?
Or is there not enough tension on the chain? Remove links? somehow tighten the r. derailler spring?
Or is there some retaining ring I can attach to the chainring?
-wag

A chain tensioner or sandwich the ring with plates, retrieve the derailer and re-mount as a guide....you may remove links -careful!

I use an outer plate and tensioner. The chain WILL still drop if I jump while on the 3 smaller cogs of my cluster.

I need a tensioner\guide system as a mtb'er.
Simply an outer\ inner plate is the cheapest and one of the best. the inner plate must have the clearance from the chainstay to be mounted.

It's a combo of chain length and a tension or guide system that works best.

A lower chainstay mounted tensioner works more to control the derailer slap, most chain drop is the chain coming off the top of the ring, -a
F\derailer not cabled\mounted lower will serve as a guide to prevent to chain\ring slip, but is noisy.

Chain tensioners that hold the chain on the top of the ring are bb mounted and have to be pretty strong.
