Blown up callipers?

Hi all, I have a few questions to ask you about my callipers.

I'm back from the (crappy) bike shop, after waiting during one week (for nothing), the repairman tells me my both 2001 Magura Julie callipers are blown up and that oil leaks (I saw the leak).

I don't know how come there's a leak, I have three hypotesis.

1- The guy who sold me the bike is a dumbass and lied, both of his callipers were blown up.
2- The repairman's a dumbass and he can't bleed hydraulic brakes properly.
3- I'm a dumbass because I cleaned my pads, callipers and discs in Isopropylic alcool.

Since I can't have the opinion from a real and nice bike shop, this evening and tomorrow, what do you think is the problem and who do you think is the dumbass?

Thanks in advance!

KarboN

P.S. Excuse my poor english, again.

.
  1. Entirely possible. You buy used - you take your chances
  2. Less likely but also possible
  3. No that you did correctly. I prefer Denatured Alcohol as it's has more alcohol and less water, but Isopropyl isn't a bad thing

Where is the leak? At the levers, along the brake line or fittings, or at the calipers?

Isopropol alcohol is recommended for cleaning rotors and parts for Hayes hydraulic brakes, so I highly doubt the alcohol would be the cause of any problems.

Inside the calipers. Behind the pads.
