I have loosened the headset on my bike for transportation and now that I have to retighten I cannot get it to be in the same location where it was. When it feels tight there is a gap under the cap hence the cap is not flush around the perimeter. If it matters for evaluation the bike is carbon fiber and the hole for the socket head cap screw is off center and the under side that the screw goes into has a cam on it.
Could you help me with some directions on this. Thanks

You Know!? For Kids!
Did you have any spacers above or below your stem? Sounds like a spacer may be missing.

I presume you have a threadless headset?
If so, the top of the steerer tube should be slightly below the bar stem. As Sydney recommended, Park's site is great.
