Broken Gears
Was riding one of my bikes the other week when I heard a massive crunch. I managed to stop just in time before I came off, head first. My back wheel had jammed up, the chain was wrapped round the gears and all the spokes were bent. What could have caused this, can it be repaired, and if it can be repaired - how??
Thanks,

Really cannot remember the make of the bike at the moment.
It's still in Weymouth as we were not able to bring it back.
It's an adult-sized mountain bike though with 21 gears, no suspension if that helps?

That helps enough. Check the rear dearilleur and hanger to see if there are any signs of damage or failure. If they're ok, you probably just need a new chain and some spokes. And pay the extra buck for that plastic disc that goes between your cassette and spokes. Without a photo, I can't begin to guess what happened, but either your chain had a kink and got bunched up, or your rear derailleur went on a sudden holiday.

Likely your derailer went into the spokes. Chain fell off the tall ring.
Possibly a derailer component gave.
A small twig or improper setting of the derailer stop screws can cause.
Did you have a plastic disk between the large cog and the spokes?
A spoke may have broken and jammed.
? I dunno. Glad you were not hurt.
