Another wheelbuilding question- reusing parts
I'm going to rebuild my rear wheel after breaking four spokes yesterday- it's and old wheel with lots of corroded nipples, making any efforts to true it quite painful.
I'm going to reuse the hub and rim. Is it necessary to relace the hub exactly as it is laced now? It's a 32H, so I'll be using the standard 3 cross pattern, but does each hole in the flange need to be replaced with a new spoke that pulls in exact same direction as the old spoke?

Relace the wheel so the spokes pull in a different direction on the hub. This will extend the life of the hub as far as the spoke flanges are concern since you are stressing the metal in a different way from previous.
Good luck.

Others, myself included, advocate keeping the old spoke pattern. The only wheel that ever gave me trouble was one I had switched from heads-in torque spokes to heads-out.
