7 speed Sora RD to new 105 RD

Are there any issues replacing a 7 speed Sora rear derailleur with a new 105 (I assume 9-speed) rear derailleur? I think the shifters should work fine, but I was not sure about chain clearance through the cage. Are the 7-speed chains enough wider to cause a problem? Thanks for any help. I tried searching, but came up empty.

No issue. When you see a derailer described as "n-speed" that's marketing talk, doesn't have anything to do with function.

Thanks for the help guys. I'm performing this surgery on a friends bike tonight and I wanted to make sure we wouldn't lose the patient.
Thanks again.
