Chain question???
Any one use the SRAM 971 ???
any problems with it like breaking or early fatigue with proper maintenance of course?

I have the SRAM 971 on my road bike. It's great - have had absolutely no problems so far. Had to take off a few links to make it fit, that's all.

Never had problems with it or the previous generation. There was talk on Velonews a while back about issues relating to use of Simple Green, but none of our customers have reported such an issue, and I know several that use Simple Green.

I use Simple Green for everything from chain cleaning to cleaning my floor. Interested in what the issue was exactly.

Simple green??
i didn't ask about an eco friendly cleaner or anything...
I use what i use for cleaning & it is not simple green for anything..lol
I use Acetone,strep or petrol, but that is immaterial.

A regular columnist on the weekly RoadBikeRider E-mail newsletter said his shop has stopped carrying SRAM chains since they have experienced an inordinate number of breakages in MTB service. He admits MTB's are harder on chains than road bikes but says the trend is clear. He also said that SRAM recently moved chain production to Portugal and that's when the quality problems began.
