    Pedal Problem?

I have a Specialized Sirrus and starting yesterday, when ever I push on the left pedal, it makes an annoying sound. the sound only happens when I'm sitting down, and after another 20 minutes of riding it stopped. Is this something that can be fixed by just buying a pedal wrench and tightening it, or is there something else going on?

My guess is that the bottom bracket retaining rings are not tight enough in the frame, or the crank isn't tight enough on the bottom bracket. I doubt that it has anything to do with the pedals.

I've often seen this symptom caused by the right side BB mounting cup being too loose. It can be tricky to diagnose. I'd suggest removing the cranks and snugging down the BB into the frame, right side first, then re-install the cranks, good and tight.

    drezdn,

In addition to Sheldon's excellent advice, you might want to check your seat adjuster. I recently experienced similar symptoms on my 1980 Schwinn Voyager. I tightened up the dual-nut, micro seat adjuster and the noise vanished.

Good point. Bicycle frames can act as a "sounding board" so that it can be difficult to localize things by sound.

I used to be really annoyed when my bike would make noises, but now I have an iPod, so there's no more problem...
