Flight Deck not displaying gear indicator

Bought a SC-6501 Shimano Flight Deck computer used off eBay last week. After installing and following the setup instructions, I notice that the gear indicator never comes up. Even shifting gears (left or right ST-7700C levers) does not give me the brief gear combo display.

It's not so much the gear indicator I care about, as it is the virtual cadence. Since neither front or rear gear are indicating, I would assume that the levers and the sensors are OK, and it's something more common to both like the actual head unit.

Any suggestions or similar problems out there?

It's either: 1) a setup problem, 2) a handlebar sensor problem or 3) broken computer.

1) Redo the setup making sure you are entering in the gear combos (Press B button just for a short time while doing this...longer than 2 seconds and it will skip and go to rear derailleur choice.

2) Seems less likely to be a sensor problem as no indication of gear is present. With this problem usually the wrong gear is indicated or does not change with changing gears. Check anyway and place the "sticker" on the sensor per insructions in manual.

if 3) Sorry...try to get money back...good luck

Thanks, all good points. I should have added that I have gone through the setup thrice now, so I am pretty confident it's not that. I did add the sticker trick and even cleaned the sensor strips with an eraser to make sure they were clean.

I suppose it could still be in the sensor head mount, but it's looking to be a head issue more and more (also, the "A" switch is a bit finicky anyway). Too late to exchange, but JensonUSA will have them (SC-6502) in stock later this month for $38. Not the best solution, but...

Unfortunately I ride with no on who uses the Flight Deck to test the computer head either. :(
