how updatable is my ride

Hello everyone,
I have an old 1989 PDM team bike which for some reason means a whole lot to me...the problem is that I haven't been interested in road bikes for a looong time (MTB only), so I have no idea whats even out there.
I have a 7 and 2 (14 gear) shimano sti exage crank setup, it uses biopace... is biopace still out there? The real question is, can I fit a 10 and 2 shimano 105 or ultegra set on there? What's chromoly...steele or aluminum? Where is the big difference between 105 and ultegra anyway? Have bottom brackets changed in size since then? I would appreciate your reply's

Cromo is steel. No issue spreading the stays to take a wider hub. Biopace is out of print. The rings still are available on ebay.Assuming you have english or Italian threading on the BB, no issues. You can fit anything you want on there. All it takes is money. There is no 10 speed 105 yet.

Not a Mech, by any means but the upgrades are out there and easy to install I just put all Shimano RSX gear I bought from a friend on an early eighties Falcon with minor fabrication, guess it depends on how much you want to do.

1989 is not old by any means. Check out the Vintage section of this forum. Anyway, I found this information about the PDM team bike.

Frame: Columbus SLX tubing
Campy C Record with Delta brakes,
San Marco Rolls saddle,
Mavic GP4 rims,
Cinelli 1R stem
Cinelli bottom bracket
Giro bars.
Italian racing geometry
Retail: About $2000

If this is the bike you have, you're very lucky. Don't upgrage anything. Restore it and ride it. If you are really set on an "upgrade", sell it to a collector for a good sum and then buy a new bike with the grupo you want.
