Crazy Brake Possibilities?
Hello--I'm getting ready for my next project bike, and I want to see about this highly unorthodox idea:
The new bike will be a flip flopping fixie/SS with bullhorns, a cyclocross fork, TT brake lever, 2 auxilliary cyclocross brakes, a travel agent, and a v-brake.
The way I figure it, this'll give me lots of stopping power, and lots of hand positions, making it a good, multipurpose city bike (for bike polo, grocery shopping, commuting, irresponsibly fast riding in heavy traffic).
The brake line sounds wierd, but seems workable. I'm thinking of starting with the TT lever on the end of the right bullhorn. The cable goes under the tape to the first top-mount (cx) lever, under the stem to the NEXT top-mount lever (with maximal space between the two). Then, the cable goes down to the travel agent, which pulls the vbrake.
This all seems good in theory. Can anyone help me out by shooting any relevant holes in my theory? Or maybe by telling me that its a great idea and that it will probably work?
Thanks!

Won't the second top-mount brake lever have to be backwards? Or do you plan to loop it when it goes under the stem?

I have installed pairs of cross levers with one brake on several customers bikes. They work just fine. Travel Agents suck a$$ tho...go cantis instead.

I concur with the previous poster, travel agents are festering piles of fecal matter.... as for the double cross lever setup... you want all three levers to control one brake? Are you looking for more power to stop by being able to compress with two hands or just want the ability to brake from either one of the three spots?

Thanks folks--good to know that this might work.
To the first guy: why do travel agents suck? If I was going to use canti's, I'd have to worry about getting the cable centered, from both sides of the handlebar.
To the second: do you have to put the second lever backwards? I'm thinking not--just installing the cable backwards into the lever.
To the third: I just want to be able to brake from wherever my hands happen to be. I also want three, asymetrical brake levers.

hello
Travel agents plus CX levers give too much pull....you don't want that. Scrap the travel agent and go with cantis as mentioned.....both TT & CX levers will work fine with cantis... And of course with cantis, you need to install cable hangers, but that's no big deal...
Oh, and by the way, you can splice in as many levers as you want....
