Some wheel truing questions
I borrowed this Park truing stand but every wheel I put on it is not centered at all, so I don't know which way the gears should face.
Also when someone explains truing techniques they all sound very logical and easy but often I run into problems when the rim is, for instance, gone to the right but the spokes that's supposed to be doing that are all loose and the ones on the opposite side are so tight that I can't turn them anymore.
Thank you for your advice.

If the spokes are so tight you cant turn them anymore and you feel like its going to round the nipple, but that is the side that would have to be tightened to center the rim, loosen all of the spokes 1 full turn.

A truing stand should not be used for checking dish, for that you should be using a dish stick. Most stands are not calibrated for dishing wheels, what I'll usually do is lock or hold one arm open, true on one side, remove the wheel with the stand in the same position, flip it around and double check the other side. If you don't have to do any adjusting to the calipers your wheel should be pretty close to centered.
