noiseless rear hub?
 
back in '98 when I got my giant iguana, it came with acera components all around. i remember the greatest thing about the bike was the fact that the rear hub didn't do that tick-tick thing when coasting. somehow the bearings inside got all messed up so i had to get a new cassette and hub... and it was the tick tick kind. i miss the silence of my bike. is there a name for this noiseless rear hub? does anyone still make them like that anymore?

That sounds like Shimano's "Silent Clutch" design. They don't have a photo of it on their site that I could find, but here's the spec page for the current DeoreLX version: http://bike.shimano.com/mtb/deorelx/...number=FH-R080

These use a roller-clutch mechanism instead of a ratchet system.

Hmm, well, the group picture does show it, and I think you'll recognize the characteristic "bulge" in the hub shell on the Silent-Clutch model at the upper right:
