Strange sound coming from the cranks
A few days ago, I was trying to pull off the cranks and BB cups to ensure the threads were greased. Initially, I tightened the cups (b/c I was turning the wrench the wrong way), but then I realized I was turning them the wrong way and proceeded to loosen and remove them. I'm concerned that I might have f'ed up the bearings when I originally tightened the cups (while trying to loosen them). When I put the cups back on, I didn't have a torque wrench, so I just snugged them good.
I went for a 30 mi. ride the following day, and everything seemed to work ok. Then yesterday I went out on a longer ride (with LOTS of climbing), and I was hearing clicking sounds at 12 and 6 o'clock coming from the cranks. These noises only happened when I was delivering a decent amount of torque to the cranks.
I know sounds from the cranks can be caused by a myriad of problems, but is it possible the cups just came a little loose and just need tightening (as evidenced by the fact that the noise wasn't present for the first ride)?
Thanks for the help!
