Carbon seatpost in aluminum frame

Hello all.

I have a Giant OCR1 with the oem carbon seatpost. The seatpost is creaking like crazy. I can't even ride the bike anymore its so annoying. My LBS says they can get a new seatpost on warranty and if that doesn't work they'll give me an aluminum post.

Is there anything I can do to alleviate this problem? I know, no lubes allowed. Am I going to have the same problem with the new seatpost? The LBS seemed to hint that carbon seatposts in aluminum frames creaking was a normal thing. My commuter has an aluminum seatpost and its a rough ride. I bought the OCR because its smooth.

Sounds actually like the shim that Giant uses. Shouldn't be the seatpost or even the carbon/aluminum.

We've warrantied a few this year so it shouldn't be a large deal for the to get it in. Let me know how it turns out.

Shim? Anymore detail on that so I can make a suggestion when I take it in this week?

Agreed. I have an OCR2 that had an aluminum seatpost, and it was squeeking like mad. I pulled out the seatpost shim, greased that up, and haven't had problems since.

The shim is just a piece of metal inside your frame to make the seatpost fit. It pulls right out when you pull your seatpost out.

That is exactly the same thing that happened to my OCR1. The mechanic greased between the shim and the frame NOT between the seat post and the shim. I still had some creaking so I did the same thing myself. I have had no noise since in the last several hundred miles of commuting.
