Dura Ace hub
I have a friend that has a NIB Dura Ace 36h front hub. He said he has had this hub for quite some time so I would imagine that it has been in his garage for a very long time. Anyway, he has offered to sell it to me for a very good price. I know nothing about road bike equipment. I do a fair amount of touring. Would this hub stand up to the weight of loaded touring? I have only used mountain bike gear so I don't know what to expect. If it is a good hub for touring I would have a front wheel built but I have not been able to locate many people that use road hubs for touring. Thanks

Not sure if I can comment on what differences loaded touring might have on hubsets; but I have had a set of 1st gen DuraAce lowflange hubs since '73 (as I remember). Trained and raced on them for thousands of miles for over a dozen years (started as a 'race' set, then were rotated to training status). They're now on their 4th set of rims and still seem to be holding up well. never broke a front spoke in all the years, and even now I can't remember poppin a rear spoke on them in recent years, although they haven't been a primary wheelset. The hub flange and spoke holes seem to have been well designed and seem to support the spoke head well. They run as smoothly and as well as any campy hubs I've had and still are as smooth as "butta". From '73 to '89 I lived back east and they accumulated a lot of 'wet' miles without any issues. Every winter they'd be taken apart for cleaning and regreasing. More durable than I can say for some sealbearing units I've owned. Originally a 120mm rear, I got a replacement DuraAce axle in '77 to build the rear out to 126mm use.
A beautiful hubset I'm happy to still own.
