Bent Front Fork

At the end of a tour I shipped my bike home in a cardboard bike box via Greyhound. The box was thoroughly marked for "this side up". But.....the front fork has one side bent in and back about 1". There are no creases or kincks in it. The bike is a Cannondale Txxx, and has 12,000 kms on it, and the fork is aluminum.

Can it be fixed? I sure would appreciate any advice.

Aluminum does not bend "back" well at all, gets weak really quick with each (plastic)deformation

I'd replace it because forks are so much cheaper than dental work that it isn't worth the risk.

The key to minimizing shipping damage is a super-careful packing job. All of those little plastic bits and pieces that factories use when packing new bicycles each serves a purpose. During the time that I owned my own bike store I received over 1,000 factory packed bicycles via UPS with exactly zero damage claims.

Thanks, people, for your help. Looks like I'm in the market for a new one, and next time I'll use something to block the fork open.
