    creaking noise

I have a Trek 5200 about 1 1/4 years old and 5,000 miles. Have recently developed a "creaking" or "snapping" sound only when pedaling and always with the crank in the same spot, but it comes and goes. Since the early summer I have had a new large chain ring, new cog set, new chain, new bottom bracket. I have also changed pedals (speedplay) and cleats. My bike machanic has taken the drive train apart and greased all metal contact points. The noise continues. Interestingly, it happens only after "warming up", say about 6-8 miles into a ride. No pedaling ... no noise. If I shilt my hand position it stops. Can my pedeling cadence be impacting the handlebar? It may start happening after a series of jolts (eg. RR tracks) or it may just start after a long steady stretch. Does not happen at low RPM (40-50) or high strain (hills), but at cruising speed (90 RPM, flats). With a long ride (50 to 100 miles) gets louder (or is it just annoying me more??). Thought of a frame crack, but hard to find (does carbon fiber fatigue?). I'll take any suggestions. Thanks!

I had a similar problem that turned out to be a dirty, dry seat post. A quick cleaning of post and frame with a little lube will tell if this is the problem.

Had the same problem with my C'dale. Cleaning and a little lube did the trick.

    Cheers

Thanks for you advise and I will try this. It does sound as though the noise is coming from the drive train and the noise does not persist when not pedaling even when I purposely squirm on the seat, but I will try to lub the seat post. Thanks

I had the same noise and switched out my seatpost and the creak went away.

Thanks, I'll try changing or adjusting the seatpost.
