CODA SPD pedal cleats?

My friend's got some CODA SPD pedals and needs cleats for them. They are mountain pedals, so should the standard Shimano SPD mountain cleats work?

The "S" in SPD stands for Shimano, other brands are not the same, not quite. The cleats need to match the pedals for best performance.
