Keeping Bar Tape and Hoods Clean

I have an older Nishiki Patriot with a cool red/white scheme. It has white bar tape, and white SLR hoods. I just spent a few hours cleaning both, and would like them to stay clean a bit longer. Any hints?

My first thought is
1 - Don't ride bike without washing hands when working on the bike.

What about armor-all? Anything else?

I'm thinking of the Cinelli tape, as it is easier to replace the tape than to remove and clean the existing tape. but the hoods are hard to find. I have searced with Google and Ebay, no joy for direct match. Everything is either dura ace or dia compe. No plain Shimano SLR.

When the tape/hoods start to get dirty, spray both with some simple green and wipe off with a rag.

If you do this 5 minute job every so often your hoods/tape will look like new forever.

I have white bartape also. Two things:
1. Simple Green works pretty well for cleaning but if you keep using it, your bar tape gets slippery when it rains.
2. The brand of bar tape I use is branded TNI at my local LBS. It's a little softer and thicker than the Cinelli and has a nice smooth texture that cleans up easily.
Ride Safe,
Steve

I've heard Gojo hand cleaner is good for grubby white bar tape. I use the Fast Orange with pumice for my hand cleaner, so I haven't tried it on my tape because I think it would leave it gritty...
