Anyone else with broken Marin sprocket?
A rear sprocket on my nearly-new Marin Kentfield broke and I fell on my face on a donkey track, here on a small Aegean island without bike shops. I said to Marin this is an extraordinary thing to happen? They said it's Shimano's fault. Shimano were terrific, caring and prompt. They looked at the remains and said this was made by Sun Race. Not us. I wrote to Marin US and Sun Race, suggesting that this is the kind of defect you don't expect. Heat treatment problem. Basic. No way could it be MY fault. No answers from either of them and I wonder if it's something that happens to other folk and we just don't hear about it. Collin

My ex's Marin san Raphael lunched a sun race casette after less than 6 mon./500 mi, and a rear rim. Got no satisfaction from Marin, in fact they never answered my letter/emails. the LBS she bought it from did eat the labor (store credit) after I complained and wrote a nasty email. To me the warranty seems pretty useless if no one wants to stand behind components. On the other hand a different LBS dropped a new bottom bracket cartridge to replace a noisy one in my gary Fisher under warranty for free while I waited.
