To determine the size of your steerer tube, measure its diameter.

To determine whether it is threaded or threadless, look for "threads" at the end of the steerer tube.

A Trek 7500 has an unthreaded fork. Why do you need to know the diameter of the "steerer"? What is the "steerer"?

as i am wanting to upgrade the fork, and i didnt know whether i needed a 1" diametre or 1 1/8in diametre tube. The steerer as they called it is the part at the top of the fork that goes into the frame. But i guess it has a propper name........

Thanks for the help.

You understand what type of fork the bike has but don't know what a "steerer" is? Obviously he means the fork's steerer tube.
