1" threadless to 1 1/8 shim?

Does anyone make this? I have a 1" headtube bike I'd like to convert to threadless, but i can't find a stem the right length and clamp sizes. If I can't find a shim, either, would it be safe to make ghetto one out of an 1,5mm Al sheet bent around the steerer? I guess i'd use the top cap of a 1 1/8 headset... any other issues?

Or could I order an 80 mm, 26mm clamp size 1" threadless stem in Europe?

I'm not sure about Europe but in the US, shims to allow a 1-1/8" threadless stem to fit a 1" threadless fork steerer are very common and many 1-1/8" stems even come with the shim as standard equipment. Bike Tools Etc (www.biketoolsetc.com) sells the shims by mailorder if you can't get one locally.

Shims are very commonplace. Check your LBS or check out the online retailers like nashbar, performancebike, coloradocyclist, supergo, etc. They all have them and they are dirt cheap so it's not worth the time, effort and risk to make a ghetto one.

Thx, that's solved then.
Bike shops surely stock them, only I didn't ask... When I asked in a shop if they have a stem they said no, and it'll be hard to find, but didn't mention the shims... silly people.
